Personal. Independent. Transparent.

The Private Clinic

As a private, non-contracted doctor (Wahlärztin), I work independently of the health insurers’ constraints and can take the time that careful care requires. Here is what that means for you.

What is a private doctor?

More time, individual care – without direct billing to the statutory insurers.

A private (non-contracted) clinic (Wahlarztpraxis) does not bill the statutory Austrian health insurers directly. After your treatment you receive an invoice, which you settle yourself in the first instance.

You can then submit part of this amount to your health insurer for reimbursement. This model creates the freedom needed to carry out every examination calmly and with full attention.

Your visit

What to expect.

Every appointment should feel calm and clear. Here is how a visit usually unfolds.

01

Arrival

You are welcomed personally and received without haste – no crowded waiting room and no time pressure.

02

Conversation & history

We talk in detail about your symptoms, your medical history and any existing findings.

03

Examination

A careful ultrasound examination of the thyroid follows, complemented where needed by further assessment.

04

Findings & next steps

I explain the results to you clearly, and together we discuss how to proceed.

Your path to reimbursement

In three steps.

01

Invoice after treatment

After your appointment you receive a detailed invoice, which you conveniently settle by bank transfer.

02

Submission to your insurer

Submit the paid invoice together with the referral note to your statutory health insurer. You are welcome to do this yourself – or, once the invoice is settled, we are happy to submit it directly on your behalf.

03

Partial reimbursement

Your insurer reimburses part of the fee – the amount is based on the tariff a contracted (Kassen) doctor would have received for the same service (typically around 80 % of it).

Private supplementary insurance

The difference
covered.

If you hold private supplementary insurance, it may cover all or part of the difference between the invoice and the reimbursement from your statutory insurer.

The precise conditions depend on your insurance tariff. We recommend clarifying this with your insurer in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know.

What does “private clinic” (Wahlarztpraxis) mean?+

As a private, non-contracted clinic, we do not bill the statutory health insurers directly. After your treatment you receive an invoice, which you settle yourself and can then submit to your insurer for partial reimbursement.

Do I need a referral?+

Not for the treatment itself – but a referral note is required for reimbursement by your statutory insurer. You receive it from your treating specialist or general practitioner; it is best to bring it along to your appointment.

I don’t have Austrian health insurance – can I still come?+

You are warmly welcome even without Austrian health insurance. In that case you bear all costs yourself – this includes not only the medical fee but also any laboratory tests carried out by external partner laboratories as well as any other costs incurred. Whether and to what extent a reimbursement is possible is for you to clarify, on your own responsibility, with your health insurance carrier at home.

How do I arrange an appointment?+

Appointments are arranged exclusively by phone: +43 512 319769, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00. This lets us discuss your concern right at the first contact.

What should I bring to my appointment?+

Your e-card, the referral note and – if available – recent laboratory results, previous findings and a list of your medications. This allows a complete assessment of your situation.

Will my private supplementary insurance cover the costs?+

Depending on your plan, your supplementary insurance may cover the difference between the invoice and the statutory reimbursement in full or in part. We recommend clarifying this with your insurer in advance.

What does the examination cost?+

We are happy to inform you about the fee by phone before your treatment begins – so you know what to expect before your appointment.
